Excise Stamps & Regulatory Compliance
For a Canadian retailer, the biggest risk in a new supplier is not price - it is stock arriving with the wrong excise stamp. Selling vaping products that bear a stamp for the wrong jurisdiction is an offence under the Excise Act, 2001, and the consequences land on the retailer holding the inventory: seizure, monetary penalties, and exposure on your own licences.
How Canadian Vaping Excise Stamps Work
Every vaping product sold legally in Canada must carry a physical excise stamp, and unstamped product has been illegal to sell since 1 January 2023. The stamp colour shows which duty has been paid. Critically, the correct stamp is determined by the province the product is sold into, not the province your supplier ships from.
