ePipe 659 Hardwood Vape Pipe

The sixth generation of the ePuffer electronic pipe. Rosewood or ebony bowl, refillable glass tank with adjustable airflow, and a child-lock filling mechanism - with the electronics moved out of the bowl and into the cap.

What changed from the 629

The 659 is not a refresh of the 629. The architecture is different, and three changes account for most of it.

Child lock on the tank

The filling opening sits behind a mechanism that has to be lifted and slid before it will open, and locks itself again when the mouthpiece holder returns to centre. On a refillable device holding nicotine e-liquid, that is the part worth engineering properly.

Electronics in the cap

On earlier models the control circuitry lived in the bowl. On the 659 the LED cap carries the integrated circuit, the activation button and the indicator. The bowl becomes solid wood and nothing else - no electronics inside the component that gets handled, knocked and set down.

Button firing with LED

Five rapid presses of the cap button powers the device on, five more powers it off. The LED glows red while active and flashes when the battery runs low, so the pipe tells you its state rather than leaving you to guess.

Automatic shutdown after 20 minutes

A pipe travels in a pocket or a bag, where a button can be pressed against something. The 659 powers itself down after twenty minutes of inactivity, which removes that problem rather than asking you to remember.

Churchwarden compatible across the range

The optional long-stem Churchwarden mouthpiece fits the 659 - unlike the later 629 X3 tank, where it does not. If the churchwarden proportions are part of why you want an e-pipe, the 659 is the model built for it.

Specifications

At 176 mm and 145 g the 659 is a substantial object - longer and heavier than a typical briar, closer to the proportions of a full-size pipe than to the pocket devices most of the market sells. That is deliberate. A pipe that feels insubstantial in the hand defeats the point of the format.

What comes in the kit

Both colourways ship in every kit. There is no choosing between gold and silver at checkout - you get both, and can change the look of the pipe whenever you want.

  • 1 x solid wood bowl - rosewood or ebony
  • 2 x LED caps - gold and silver trim
  • 2 x glass tanks - gold and silver
  • 2 x mouthpieces - standard, plus the child-lock mouthpiece adapter
  • 5 x atomizer coils - 1.0 ohm
  • 2 x 18350 rechargeable batteries
  • 1 x Nitecore battery charger
  • 1 x wooden gift box
  • Spare silicone O-rings

Two batteries matter in practice - one charges while the other is in the pipe, so the device is never out of action waiting on a charge. The charger is a Nitecore rather than a generic unit, because a charger that matches the cell chemistry is the difference between a battery that lasts and one that does not.

Available separately

  • Churchwarden long-stem mouthpiece
  • Rosewood single pipe display stand
  • Rosewood dual pipe display stand
  • Leather e-pipe travel pouch

How it works

The glass tank refills from a bottle rather than taking a proprietary cartridge, so any e-liquid works in it - including every blend in our range at 0 mg/mL if you want to run it nicotine-free. Two millilitres is a working tankful rather than a reservoir; you refill it, which is the point of a refillable device.

The tank is clear, so the liquid level is visible without dismantling anything. Airflow adjusts at the tank base, and the 1.0 ohm coil sits inside that base and unscrews for replacement - a consumable, changed when flavour goes muted or burnt.

Nothing burns. The coil heats e-liquid into vapour, so there is no ash, no ember and no relighting.

Availability

The ePipe 659 is in production now. Final prototypes are complete and tested, and manufacturing is under way.

We are not putting a date on it, because a date we might miss is worse than no date at all. Get in touch and we will let you know the moment it is available to order in Canada.

ePuffer has designed and manufactured its own e-pipes since 2007, and we stock parts for models going back years - including the 629 spares range, which is staying exactly where it is.

E-PIPE 659 FAQ

  • Three changes account for most of it, and they are structural rather than cosmetic.

    • Child lock on the tank. The filling opening is behind a lift-and-slide mechanism that relocks itself when the mouthpiece holder returns to centre. The 629 had no equivalent.
    • The electronics moved. On the 629 the control circuitry sat in the bowl. On the 659 the LED cap carries the integrated circuit, the button and the indicator, so the bowl is solid wood and nothing else.
    • Button firing. Five rapid presses of the cap button switches the device on, five more switches it off, with LED indication for power state and low battery.

Two smaller changes worth knowing: the 659 shuts itself down after twenty minutes of inactivity, and the Churchwarden long-stem mouthpiece fits it - which the later 629 X3 tank does not.

  • The filling opening is covered by the mouthpiece holder, which does not simply slide aside. To open it you lift the holder upward, then slide it in the direction of the marked triangle. That two-step motion is what makes it child-resistant - a single pull or push will not do it.

Once you have filled the tank, slide the mouthpiece holder back to centre and it locks automatically. There is no separate catch to remember.

This matters on a refillable device more than on a sealed one. A device holding a tank of nicotine e-liquid that opens with one hand is a risk in a household with children; one that needs a deliberate two-part action is not.

  • Press the LED cap button rapidly five times to power on. The same five presses powers it off.

The LED glows red while the device is active, and flashes when the battery is running low.

The 659 also powers itself down after twenty minutes of inactivity. That is deliberate - a pipe travels in a pocket or a bag where a button can be pressed against something, and an automatic shutdown removes that problem rather than relying on you to remember. To wake it, press the button five times within three seconds.

  • Four steps:

    1. Lift the mouthpiece holder upward, then slide it in the direction of the triangle to release the child lock and expose the filling opening.
    2. Fill through the opening. Do not pour e-liquid into the centre airflow tube - that is the channel your draw travels through, and liquid in it causes gurgling and leaking.
    3. Slide the mouthpiece holder back to centre. It locks automatically.
    4. Let the filled tank stand for three to five minutes before use, so the wick saturates.

The tank holds 2 ml. Refill before the level drops below a quarter full - firing a nearly-dry coil is the fastest way to burn it out.

  • The 1.0 ohm coil sits inside the tank base.

    1. Turn the tank base counterclockwise to remove it and expose the coil.
    2. Unscrew the old coil counterclockwise.
    3. Thread the new coil in clockwise until seated.
    4. Reassemble the tank.

Fill the tank, then let it stand at least five minutes so the e-liquid fully saturates the wick. Firing a dry coil scorches it immediately, and a scorched coil never recovers.

Change a coil when flavour turns muted or burnt and does not clear after a refill. Every kit ships with five.

  • Everything needed to use the pipe, in a wooden gift box:

    • 1 solid wood bowl - rosewood or ebony
    • 2 LED caps, gold and silver trim
    • 2 glass tanks, gold and silver
    • 2 mouthpieces, including the child-lock adapter
    • 5 atomizer coils, 1.0 ohm
    • 2 18350 rechargeable batteries
    • 1 Nitecore battery charger
    • Spare silicone O-rings

Both colourways ship in every kit, so there is no choosing gold or silver at checkout. Two batteries means one charges while the other is in the pipe.

The Churchwarden long-stem mouthpiece, pipe stands and the leather travel pouch are available separately.

  • Any e-liquid works - the tank refills from a bottle rather than taking a proprietary cartridge, so nothing ties you to one range.

For a pipe, a pipe tobacco blend is the obvious match. English Flake is the closest to traditional pipe tobacco in our range and the blend most e-pipe owners settle on.

Nicotine strengths run from 20 mg/mL - the Canadian federal maximum - down to nicotine-free at 0 mg/mL, available across all 25 of our blends.

Use e-liquid only. Do not fill the tank with oils of any kind.

  • Not the tank or the coil. The 659 uses a different tank architecture with the child-lock mechanism built into the mouthpiece holder, and the coil threads into that tank base.

The 18350 battery format is the same, so batteries and chargers carry across.

We stock 629 spares as ongoing lines and that is not changing - coils, tanks, bowls, stems and caps for the 629 stay available. A new model does not end support for the one before it, and we have parts for e-pipes going back years.

If you are unsure which parts fit what you own, send us your model and we will confirm before you order.

  • The device travels in carry-on only, never checked baggage - that applies to any vaping device on any Canadian airline, because of the lithium battery.

For the 659 specifically: empty the tank before flying and detach it from the bowl. Cabin pressure changes cause a filled tank to leak, and a 2 ml glass tank in a bag is not where you want that happening.

Spare 18350 batteries go in carry-on as well, protected against short circuit - the original packaging, a battery case, or tape over the terminals. E-liquid follows the standard 100 ml carry-on rule.

Using, refilling or charging any vaping device is prohibited on board.

  • Four things that make the difference:

    • Clear the airflow path. After every second refill, hold the tank with the mouthpiece end facing down and shake firmly three or four times before reattaching it to the bowl. This clears condensation from the airflow channel.
    • Condensation in the mouthpiece holder is normal. Wipe it with a clean dry tissue. Persistent leaking is not normal - contact us if you see it.
    • Empty the tank for storage. If the pipe will not be used for a while, empty it and detach the tank from the bowl. E-liquid left standing in a tank degrades the coil.
    • Charge stored batteries every three months. A lithium cell left flat for long periods loses capacity permanently.

The wood bowl needs nothing beyond keeping it dry. With the electronics in the cap rather than the bowl, there is nothing inside it to damage.
